Finding their way with a little help from QR codes

Last year, our librarian, Angela Hall, presented on an idea she learned about QR codes from TCEA at the inaugural Westwood Tech Slam. She shared on how QR codes can be used to create scavenger hunts around the school.

This year, Chinese teacher, Caley Tindal, adapted the idea for her students. She created a series of QR codes that linked to a variety of questions around the school. In order to find the location of the next QR code, students had to correctly answer the question.

The activity was a great success and included all members of the school! It also used QR codes in a way that helped improve the learning outcome. Though most of us have participated in scavenger hunts, there is a lot of set up with posting questions outside, etc. By using QR codes, Ms. Tindal was able to cut down on time while making the process smoother and quickly directing students to resources beyond just the Westwood building.
