Westwood Rocks the Hour of Code

From December 9-December 15, 2013, schools across the nation participated in the Hour of Code, an event designed to bring coding-based learning to classrooms. Students solved problems through coding and designed solutions. Westwood was one of a few area schools to participate.

Mrs. Patterson's class represented Westwood in the #hourofcode. They participated for three days (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) after school for 1 hour. It was open to the entire school and they gained some student participation in this first year. It was organized, and run by two students who were in charge of publicizing the event and leading the participants through the activities. They participated in the Angry Birds (scratch) and LightBot activities.

Joining Mrs. Patterson's class were Assistant Principal, Dr. Mark Kylar, and Principal, Laurelyn Atterbury, who brought in her two young children to code for an hour.

Next year, Westwood hopes to increase participation and expand upon activities!
